Did you know that Dr. Scott was also a victim of such a con? Yep, she’s speaking from experience. The book details her encounter with a pretend filming company representative. She explains the elaborate scheme the conmen created and gives tips on how to spot warning signs.
Dr. Scott’s book reveals that the conmen’s modus operandi was to approach authors with an offer to pitch their film-worthy book to top film company executives. As a result, the unsuspecting writer would repeatedly pay toward scripts, loglines/synopsis, and show bibles to pitch their material to these supposed film executives.
She describes her investigation into the matter which resulted in exposing the scam. This is followed by interviews with ten other victims about their individual experiences and writing projects. Finally, Dr. Scott gives advice on how you can recognize and avoid cons, as well as what you can do should you fall prey to this type of fraud and how to possibly retrieve any lost money.
The Big Con was followed by another book entitled “I Was Scammed” which discusses other common types of scams, including social media, email, and, real estate scams as well as customer, fraud, merchant, and personal identity scams.
Dr. Scott’s two books will be turned into documentaries and feature interviews with seven scam victims, as well as experts and law enforcement officials.
The Big Con also inspired the creation of a Facebook support group where victims of fraud can interact with each other and share tips on how to spot common cons. To check out the group or join, visit https://www.facebook.com/groups/1060223038128200
